Technological Challenge: Technical challenges for risers and moorings continue to grow with increasing water depth. Research projects are focused on improving analysis tools to predict the dynamics of mooring lines and risers, and to predict the forces and responses of risers experiencing vortex-induced vibrations due to strong currents (high Reynolds numbers). In addition new research will seek to evaluate the state of practice in fatigue assessment in the offshore industry today. Of interest is an understanding of how fatigue life calculations are undertaken and how both load and resistance side uncertainties are employed in design for fatigue.
