Research in the field of nonlinear marine hydrodynamics at Texas A&M University has been advanced through the development of software for acquiring and analyzing laser Doppler anemometer signals. The laser Doppler anemometer (LDA) system includes the laser, laser optics, traverse mechanism, two frequency trackers and frequency shifters. In addition, a data acquisition system is necessary to acquire the analog voltage from the frequency trackers and wave probe. The software named TAMULDA, is written in HP BASIC version 5.0 and consists of the four main parts: optical parameter setting, frequency tracker and shifter setting, data acquisition parameter setting and data acquisition for keyboard trigger mode, time delay trigger mode, monitor display trigger mode, TTL trigger mode. The procedures and example for using TAMULDA and the basic theory of laser Doppler anemometry are described in this report.
